How many applicants will be selected to join the O17 Summer Challenge?

We will select up to 50 students from diverse regions, age groups and disciplines.

What prizes are available?

Weekly prizes will include financial support for projects and in-kind prizes for participants. Final prizes will include opportunities for top projects to enter accelerator or incubator programmes and invitations to participate in international events.

What credit or certificate will be awarded?

University of Geneva awards 6 ECTS credits for completion of the Open Seventeen Summer Challenge, which other Universities may validate according to their regulations. All students will receive a Certificate from the participating Universities and International Organizations.

How will they be selected?

The selection criteria include:

  • Relevance of the proposed project to the selected challenge (are you solving a real problem?)
  • Innovativeness of the approach (has anyone done anything similar already?)
  • Feasibility of the project (can your team really do this?)

Criteria of balance for gender, geographical region and subject of study also applied.

When, where and how will the coaching happen?

The coaching lasts for 4 weeks from 6-31 July. It consists 2h daily sessions, every weekday, run virtually on the ZOOM platform. Precise dates/times will be communicated to successful applicants taking into account participant time zones. No travel is required, the event is entirely online.

How much homework will participation entail?

Between the daily sessions you will have to work with your (virtual) team on group assignments concerning your project proposal. You should anticipate 2 hours per day on the assignment. Participants would also be expected to put in extra hours to work on their projects.
