Goal 11: SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
Cities provide opportunities for improving access to resources and services, but are also the space for poverty, environmental degradation, and vulnerability to the impact of climate change. The UN New Urban Agenda – to address poverty and emerging urban challenges - will be decided in Quito in Oct 2016.
The new O17 challenge focus on cities: we ask you to pitch crowdsourcing projects to monitor the progress being made towards making cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable!
Sustainable Development Goals: SDG indicators need crowdsourcing
In a correspondence published in the Nature Journal, Yves Flückiger - Rector of the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and Nikhil Seth - UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR (Geneva, Switzerland) suggest that data that have been crowdsourced by civil-society ventures should be incorporated into the international process of monitoring the SDGs. However, to avoid issues of data quality, organizers of crowdsourcing projects need training such as the one offered by The Open Seventeen.
The last Open Seventeen challenge (Oct - Dec 2015) has generated seven high-quality ideas for crowdsourcing projects.
Proponents will now start a coaching programme specifically created by The GovLab to offer them support and guidance on how to refine the project concept and set up a prototype on an open source crowdsourcing platform.
